On March 26, Từ Dũ Hospital held the inauguration ceremony for its Japanese-standard dental clinic for pregnant women.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Vĩnh Châu, PhD – Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health – commended Từ Dũ Hospital for its dedication and relentless efforts to improve the quality of medical services and apply advanced scientific and technological innovations to better serve the community.
“Từ Dũ Hospital is a leading specialized hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern region. Each year, it handles over 300,000 prenatal check-ups and deliveries. This figure reflects the tremendous potential for expanding and enhancing healthcare services, including dental care for pregnant women,” Dr. Nguyễn Văn Vĩnh Châu emphasized.
The Deputy Director expressed his hope that the Japanese-standard dental clinic for pregnant women will operate effectively and become a trusted healthcare destination for expectant mothers, contributing meaningfully to maternal and child health care in the city.
At the same event, Prof. Dr. Nagato Natsume – Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Nagoya City – remarked that the clinic represents the strong and enduring friendship between Vietnam and Japan. Over the past 50 years, the two countries have deepened cooperation across various fields, especially in healthcare and comprehensive wellness.
Dr. Trần Ngọc Hải, MD, Level II Specialist and Director of Từ Dũ Hospital, noted that many people tend to overlook the connection between oral health and pregnancy. However, scientific research has shown that a mother’s oral health can directly impact fetal development.
During pregnancy, women are more susceptible to dental issues such as pregnancy gingivitis, pregnancy tumors of the gums, dry mouth, tooth decay, and infections. One of the most serious risks is oral infections spreading to the uterus, potentially leading to complications such as preterm birth or miscarriage.
Oral health problems not only affect the mother’s well-being but can also result in serious complications for the baby. Therefore, maintaining good oral hygiene throughout pregnancy is essential.
The Japanese-standard dental clinic for pregnant women at Từ Dũ Hospital will help with early detection and effective treatment of common dental conditions in expectant mothers, contributing to their overall health and well-being.
Prior to this, in Hanoi, Minister of Health Đào Hồng Lan met with Prof. Nagato Natsume, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and President of the Japan Association for Oral Health Care.
